About
In 2009, I officially created, recorded and purchased camojoes.com. Why? I love camo! and my name happens to be Joe! And it was amazing how limited the word camo was in searching for domains. All the popular ones that I could brainstorm were taken. A brand is important, but camojoes can be something great, I thought.
In my love and thoughts of camo, I began to consider why there wasn't more variation and umpphh in camo... Everything I wore just about was some form of it as often as possible. I grew up about 30 minutes from Mossy Oak HQ in West Point, MS and became somewhat familiar with their story and I could see that only one design at a time was necessary and produced and then applied to all products... I understand economy of scale and how business works, but there is a limited selection of camo designs even to this day. Oh well what can I do? Talk to the guys at Mossy Oak? Design camo myself? Huh?! I did some homework but it was comletely overwhelming with huge barriers of entry and a market that left the US for cheaper labor. And I found out there were more than a few barriers to meeting up with the guys at Mossy Oak. They were reportedly out hunting every time I tried to make contact... that sounded good and something to strive for!
I put all of my camo thoughts on the back burner and camojoes became an outdoor news blog sharing information, pics, etc. I made several attempts at offering classified ads, but continued to just share unique items of outdoor interest mainly on social media during the 2010s among friends with dreams of "making something of it one day!" Then to my utter disappointment, Facebook closed all my business pages in 2020 so I lost connection with my select CamoJoes friends and followers. I had changed the name on my regular acct to my full legal name and FB thought I was committing fraud! What?? Why not let me submit my drivers license or other ID to prove who I am? I lost the page.
Fast forward to early 2023 when the thoughts of creating custom camo crossed my mind again and after several months the dream and ability became a reality thanks to the continuing advancement of dye sublimation and all over print (AOP). I now have several thousand variations of flora and other natural digital camo designs that will become available in the near future.
In July 2024, camojoes.com came full circle and my work began to build a website offering hunting, fishing, and outdoor products made possible by my design and web work for a local brick and mortar sporting goods retailer, and by negotiating and discussion with several national distributors. PLUS! my custom camo will soon fill the pages! Yeahhh! I continue to add products and designs and work on the site daily. Moving forward, making it the best site possible, offering excellent design and product choices with excellent customer service is most important. To this end, I am also implementing a concierge product locator service to search and find those products that typically never make it online or are difficult to find due to limited descriptions, limited marketing budgets, or the craftsman is not into selling on the web.
My background is in real estate sales and construction with a love for graphics, logos, web, and digital design. While a resident of the Alabama Gulf Coast, I provided local design services and products for businesses and the City of Orange Beach and got my feet wet as a facility manger. As far as education, I feel I am more than prepared... time to get busy now! I received my BSBA from the Univ of Alabama in 2003, an MPA from Arkansas State Univ in 2020, and an MSIT from Columbia Southern Univ in 2024.
The future holds offering travel and outdoor adventure and private getaways for rent and purchase to my clients. In other words, a more personal redneck version of some of the existing online rental and owner service sites!
A portion of profit from CamoJoes will be set aside to create the Mobile Tensaw Conservancy/Foundation a nonprofit that I proposed and introduced while obtaining my MPA in Nonprofit Management at Arkansas State. The goal is to save, protect, and promote the South Alabama stretch of land among and between the Mobile and Tensaw Rivers (and other rivers) that dump into the Gulf of Mexico at the Mobile Bay, also known as "America's Amazon."
